Weekly Bible Reading Recap & Sunday Blog Prayer
I’m a gal who thrives on mission, on purpose. The more I have to do – the more I get done. And when I know that my work is for the Kingdom of Heaven, well, those are the days I live for. Unfortunately my mind does it’s fair share of lie-believing. Sometimes all it takes is an emotional moment or waking up one day with little motivation and I’m stuck in pit of purposelessness.
God knows (because I’ve told Him many times!) that I hate feeling like I lack purpose.
1 Peter has long been one of my favorite books of the Bible. When I saw it come up in this weeks reading I was both excited and disappointed. Excited because, well, it’s my favorite. And disappointed because I wasn’t sure I would receive anything “new” during this weeks reading since those pages of my Bible are well used and full of notes.
I was wrong. (I should have known better.) God had something for me this week. He wanted to me to see a verse that would wipe out those lies of purposelessness that I’m so prone to believe. I must have read it dozens of times before, but this week, I read it and it was if God said, “Shirley, haven’t I told you this already? But here, look, it’s in My word. I must really mean it.”
What’s the verse? 1 Peter 2: 4-5 “As you come to Him, the living Stone – rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to Him – you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
One thing is sure, I won’t always be able to see my purpose like a goal list in front of me, but I do know, without doubt, my main purpose. I am, and was created to be, a worshiper of my King – of God in Heaven and Jesus, my Messiah.
Some days, I might struggle with my life’s mission, but every day I know exactly what He has built me for.
