Friday came and went with no word about fingerprints. We pulled out all the stops; getting in contact with NC Congresswoman Sue Myrick’s Chief of Staff (a member of our church) and another member of the church that is in the FBI. They all did what they could do, but the Lord had us in FL for the weekend and possibly a week or two longer.
We spent our weekend out and about; registering at Babies R’ Us and just enjoying time as a family. On Sunday morning we were able to Skype with our youth and we enjoyed the Super Bowl with Papa Charlie and Grandma Karen with another Skype date with our church family during half time. It was an honor to be able to share Moriah’s story (up to that point) and give the Lord all the glory.
We went to bed Sunday night with anticipation of what the new week would bring. Q was up bright and early Monday morning. Somehow he found the contact number for the FBI and called them directly. He explained our situation and gave our information…
“Your prints went through on Friday and Christie’s went through on Sunday. They should have your results now by email.”
What!? The fingerprints that were definately going to be rejected were accepted the first time through. I don’t know about you, but I serve a sovereign God!
We immediately called “the guy” that we’d paid to receive the information within 24-48 hours. He sent the results to our attorney who then sent them to Florida ICPC. Florida ICPC approved our paperwork that afternoon and overnighted everything to NC ICPC.
On Monday evening a fellow blog friend (also an adoptive mom and North Carolinian) passed along NC ICPC’s phone number and told us to stay on top of them; they were known for dragging their feet.
Q had no problem getting up bright and early Tuesday morning! He called NC ICPC and asked if our paperwork had been received yet. It hadn’t and the lady promised that she would keep an eye out for it.
We got up and ready for the day and decided we would go to Target and take a ride down the coastal highway; baby’s first trip to the beach! At 12:30pm, as we were pulling out of the Target parking lot, NC ICPC called…
“You’re free to go.”
Joy overswept us as we never expected to receive clearance so quickly. We immediately headed back to pack and head home, but sadness overwhelmed me as we were also having to say goodbye to Papa Charlie and Grandma Karen…
