As I silently prayed, we continued to talk. The attorney arrived around 11am and “D” walked in for the first time that morning; he wasn’t as talkative as the night before. The attorney asked if they had any questions, it was almost signing time. “D” held the baby while we took pictures together and then it was time to step out while “J” signed her rights over. The attorney handed us our paperwork to review while waiting.
Q and I headed to the waiting room where we looked over the paperwork and wrote down any questions we had. It took us every bit of time it took them to really look everything over; things happened so fast and we’d never done this before, we needed to make sure we understood all of the logistics.
Around 12:30pm the attorney walked in; “She signed.”, she said. A sigh of relief with a tinge of fear…it’s our turn now! We went over the list of questions we had and felt comfortable with our knowledge of “the process”. We signed and signed and signed, and suddenly…she was ours!
We had hoped to see “J” and “D” before they left. Things happened so quickly and we just wanted to say goodbye in some way. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do that…they were gone. I pray that they left with a peace that surpasses all understanding, a peace that only He could provide…
We made plans to meet the attorney at her office later that day to sign some additional paperwork. It was time to go see her! The legal assistant accompanied us back to the nursery and introduced us to the nurses. Suddenly, there she was, Moriah Faith…she was ours!
To think, at that moment, two days before I had planned to call the attorney and tell her we weren’t moving forward. I am so glad that God’s plan and will is so much bigger than my finite and fearful mind. To think of the blessing I would have missed out on because of fear…thank you, Lord.
We left our baby girl in the hospital for one more night, but with a little pep in our step, we headed to Wal-Mart for some baby essentials and then headed to the attorney’s office.
We were allowed to visit the nursery for feedings every 4 hours and decided to stop for dinner and a trip to Target for our first baby registry! We made it back to the hospital around 9pm, had our feeding time, talked with the doctor, and headed back to the hotel; prayerfully, tomorrow would be the day we could take our girl home…
…to be continued.
