Celebrate your identity in Christ with worship songs that proclaim unchangeable truth.
When Jesus’ disciples learned that He would not remain with them to the end of their lives and ministries, they were distressed.
Jesus wasn’t trying to scare them with His promise of impending trials. Rather, he wanted to prepare them to live securely in the knowledge of who He was and what He could do through them no matter what happened.
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 (ESV)
I don’t know what trials, large or small, you’re facing today.
What I do know is that circumstances do not define a child of God.
You are not the sum of your successes or failures. “Take heart” in the midst of your struggles by remembering who you are in Christ.
God will use your struggles to help shape you into a better reflection of His Son, Jesus Christ, but you are not defined by those trials. You are defined by what God declares you to be in Christ.
So “take heart.” Just like the disciples, you will have trouble in this world. Hope, joy and peace are yours in the midst of them when you remember your identity in Christ.
Your Identity In Christ
- Chosen
- Redeemed
- Forgiven
- Loved
- Accepted
- Adopted
- Blessed
- Victorious
These qualities are not greater on the days you seem to be weathering your storms pretty well. Nor are they any less true when you feel like you’re having a bad day. These truths remain secure because they have nothing to do with you! They are completely dependent on the impeccable character of God and the work of His Son, Jesus Christ.
The song, Forgiven, by Chris Tomlin summarizes these truths well. Below, I’ve listed a Scripture verse and an additional worship song for each individual characteristic. Enjoy!

God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 2 Thessalonians 2:13
Who Am I? by Casting Crowns
Redeemed
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. Ephesians 1:7
