Being in youth ministry, we’re always looking for great resources to share with our youth. Added to the fact that Q loves books, we’re always looking for great books to share with them! They even know that their birthday’s and our Christmas parties will involve a book of some sort! 🙂
So, when I had the opportunity to review Becoming God’s True Woman…While I Still Have a Curfew by Susan Hunt and Mary A. Kassian, I was thrilled to possibly find another resource; especially for my girl’s!
“You’re becoming a young woman. Do you wonder what the days and years ahead hold for you? Who did God make you to be? What kind of person will you become? What does God’s Word say about things like beauty, friendships, guys, and dating?
I loved the layout of the book. Susan Hunt uses the first part of the book to share basic biblical principles and Mary Kassian “gives practical implications of these principles” in part two.
The book is set up as a bible study type tool, so each chapter is fairly short, but provides an abundance of information. At the end of each chapter are different ways to implement what you’ve learned as well as real life girls giving their input!
- Time to Read: one or more bible verses that coincide with the chapter’s theme
- Time to Think: a few questions to apply what you’ve learned
- Time to Pray: a time to pray and write down your prayers for the chapter
- Time to Live for God’s Glory: a practical tip and thought to take with you
Topics include media, modest dress, biblical submission, living a self-controlled life, time management, the Bible and sex before marriage, dating, hypocrisy, treasuring Christ above all, and more — all geared toward teen girls.
To say I’ve been impressed with this study is an understatement. Filled with God’s truth and practicality, I haven’t run into a resource for teen girls like this one, ever. I’m so impressed with this study that I’ve decided to use it as our discipleship training material on Sunday nights, starting in the new year.
I am convinced that any teen girl that studies this will either change their view of biblical womanhood or strive to live an even more God honoring lifestyle than they already are. What I would give to go back and have the opportunity to study something like this during my teen years!
