Top Five Bible Studies
A few weeks ago I started a conversation in The Satisfaction Through Christ Facebook Group on What is your favorite Bible study? I found out some interesting things like fellow STC contributor, Michelle Lesley, writes Bible studies! (Check out Jacob Journaling Through The Journey!)
Today I thought I would expand the conversation into this post by sharing my top five Bible studies. It was hard choosing which ones to share because I have done so many, but here are my top picks!
Five years ago, after I had Lilly, I found myself searching for something to help me heal. My mind, soul, heart, and body needed to heal after a traumatic birth experience and the process of accepting Lilly’s diagnosis.
The Bible studies in my new church didn’t interest me and I didn’t want to drive in the snowy, icy, deer filled Alberta roadways at night. I found myself searching for independent Bible studies.
I used to get my studies from the Christian book store and over the years I switched to blogs, (thank you to those bloggers who offer free Bible studies), and from Right Now Media.
The great thing about the internet is you can find a Bible study that meets your budget 🙂
The Hubbies Pick: Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman
My husband loves this book. He has the book, the guidebook and now the app. He told me that he likes how the love languages are explained and he enjoys the app challenge. It makes it easy to implement in his life 🙂
Managing Your Moods part of Women of Faith Study Guide Series
This study has a very soft spot in my heart, because it was the first one I ever did. Moods are something that I really struggled with. Especially moods like anger, confusion, being overwhelmed, and worrying. This study taught me that I wasn’t alone and to bring these before God.
The Proverbs 31 Woman by Courtney Joseph
I got this study for free when I originally started following Women Living Well all those years ago. I remember getting the book in my inbox and thinking there’s a book in the bible that tells me how to be a women! Honestly I had no idea. Through this study I discovered who God called me to be as a women, wife and mother. Proverbs 31:25 to this day gets me through tough seasons.
You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity by Francis & Lisa Chan
Over the years I have read a few Bible studies on marriage, but this one made me stop and think. How does our marriage affect our eternal life? It’s something that is still a work in progress for me, but this study opened my eyes to a different look on marriage.
Named by God by Kasey Van Norman
I started this Bible study on accident. I just clicked on the video series and started watching the first one without thinking (I have only done the video series.) It transformed me in a way I had no idea it would. Somehow, I had let bitterness take hold of me. Through Kasey’s video’s I found myself going back to the beginning of this root of sin and dealing with it. I found myself getting up early and leaving my house so I could give the study my full attention.
Each of these studies has impacted our home. I may have not done The 5 Love Languages but it has impacted my home deeply because my hubby learned from it and uses its foundation in our daily life. Now I ask you what are your favourite bible studies? Which ones have impacted your home?

Excellent suggestions… I would love to try them all! They all look so empowering and beautifully written!
Thank-you for commenting Amanda. I think I avoid book stores more because I have 14 month old and a 5 year old. They’d just cause trouble!
Thanks so much for the shout out, Candice! :0)
My favorite is really a commentary, not a Bible study, but I just love Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible. He has such depth of insight.
Oh, and speaking of free Bible studies on blogs, I have one of those, also. It’s a study on the book of Jonah. Here’s lesson 1 (http://michellelesleybooks.com/2011/05/16/jonah-lesson-1-call-me-ishmael/) or you can just click on “Jonah Bible Study” in the category cloud on the left sidebar.
Awesome 🙂 will have to check it out Michelle!
I think the Five Love Languages is my favorite. My husband and I did it together split into men’s group and ladies group. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to come together and the end and hit the highlights. Still fond memories and great conversations!
That sounded fun. Have you checked out the app or website? Each one has something interesting or so my hubby tells me 😉
Candice, I still frequent book stores, but I do love the online resources for Bible study. Thanks for highlighting some!
Shirley…what are some of your favourite? (I’m looking for a new bible study)
My friends and I are so blessed to be going through Genesis with a Nancy Guthrie study, “The Promised One: Seeing Jesus in Genesis.” I’ve already purchased the rest of the set. Linda Dillow’s “Calm My Anxious Heart” is another biblically based study that I will go back to again.
