Hello! I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful summer. It’s a great time of year to host friends and family for a meal or desserts since you can take the festivities outside. And it’s a great time of year to infuse some fun color into your life.
Today I want to inspire you to make some colorful wicker pedestal serving pieces for your outdoor (or indoor!) summer entertaining.
Doesn’t wicker just speak summer to you? Add some vibrant color and what could be better?
The supplies are super simple and can be found at big box stores, your local thrift store or yard sales.
I can usually find a big stack of these wicker plate holders at yard sales or thrift stores, but if you’re having trouble locating some, try Walmart.
Paint your wicker plate holders and candlesticks. You don’t need fancy equipment to do this. Just flatten an old cardboard box in your yard and spray these pieces on top of it. Make sure the overspray isn’t getting on your house, and of course, be careful not to in hale the fumes. Or, if you’d rather paint by hand, then buy a small tube of acrylic paint and go for it!
Distress the candlesticks with sandpaper, if desired.
Turn your plate holder upside down and use a generous amount of hot glue to attach the candlesticks.
Turn right side up and set something heavy in the middle of the plate until it dries & sets.
Enjoy your happy summery pedestal plates! Perfect for setting that strawberry shortcake on, use for smores supplies, or on the healthy side – set out cherries & blueberries in pretty cupcake liners.
For more coordinated serving pieces, paint the plain wicker plate holders to match your color scheme.
Pick up some wicker serving baskets at a yard sale and paint them as well. Now you can serve even your chips in style!
The sky’s the limit with what you can do with a little paint. Nothing is safe from my spray paint can. What can you paint to add some fun summery color to your life?
{And if you’d rather not make them yourself, you can buy them in my etsy shop! Every dollar goes to help us adopt our little one from Ethiopia. We just got our referral a few weeks ago, so now we’re saving for plane tickets. Yay!}
