Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time {Review & #Giveaway}

December 2, 2013 by Christie 12 Comments

I was provided a copy of Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time for review purposes.  All opinions are my own.

Welcome back from Thanksgiving, y’all!  I took last week off and really enjoyed time with my family.  As much as I love blogging, it was great to just step away and know that this little space would be here when I returned!  I pray that you enjoyed the time with your family as well.

Today I’m excited to bring you another great giveaway!

Corine has been a follower of the blog for a while and recently began advertising, too.  A couple of months ago she expressed interest in a review and giveaway of her book, Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time.  I, of course, agreed and today I get to share it with all of you!
Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time is a great resource for this time of year.  Many parents, especially Christian parents, struggle with the idea of giving and receiving gifts on Christmas.  We all know that the Christmas season should be in honor of Christ, his life, and his sacrifice for us, so why do we receive gifts in celebration of Him?

Corine does a great job of showing how gift giving is actually honorable to the Lord.  On each page, Evelyn and her friends share why they give gifts on Jesus’ birthday and throughout the year.  From giving gifts as a reminder of God’s gift of Christ to giving of our time, each illustration shows children that gift giving is a picture of Christ’s love and gifts towards us. My favorite part of Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time are the Bible verses that are shared on each page.  The word of God is front and center, just the way it should be!
Corine has also created a few fun resources to go along with the book.  You can print off coloring pages, a crossword puzzle, and a scripture memory card game here!

In our home, we seek to honor the Lord with the type of entertainment we enjoy.  That trickles down to our kids and our aim is that the books, movies, and television that they are entertained by would be pleasing to Him.  It has been a privilege to share Corine’s book with Moriah as we lead up to the Christmas season.  She’s still pretty young, but I know that it will be a part of our annual Christmas reading as a way to teach her that giving is a gift in and of itself.
Today, one reader will win a copy of Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time!  Please use the Rafflecopter form below to enter!

    We read a lot of books about Christmas, and this year we started doing an Advent wreath. We put a lot more focus on the true meaning than all the commercial extras.

    This time of the year it is so important to keep our focus on God. It is so easy for us and our children to focus on material things and not what is important. Reading this great book will definitely help keep that focus where it needs to be. My kids are now teens and I am so proud of them. They truly have rather give than receive. They also do not ask for anything.
    Blessings,

    We make sure that we read the Biblical account every Christmas day. We also do at least some advent related activities. We also have a nativity set just for them.

    We always make a birthday cake for Jesus so that we remember that it is all about Jesus being born.

    My two kids are still so little, but we will talk about Jesus and reinforce that we give gifts because we are celebrating a season of sharing and caring about others, and celebrating the birth of Jesus.
