React Mobile – Peace of Mind at Your Fingertips

December 16, 2013 by Christie Leave a Comment

I have been a worrier my entire life.
From fear of being left at school at the age of seven to the fear of not being able to make ends meet today, worry has always been a struggle for me.  Thankfully, my fears have subsided as I’ve learned to lean on the Lord and trust that He is sovereign and in control of my life.
As women, I think we all try to be prepared for that worst case scenario.  And if you’re anything like me, you’ve gone through an “action plan” over and over again as to what you would do in an emergency.
What would you do if a man approached you and attempted to rob you as you walked to your car one evening?

My action plan has always been to take that sucker down, no matter the cost!  But reality sets in and I realize that might not be my safest bet!  I’ve also envisioned trying to secretly call 911 on my cell phone and hope that the attacker didn’t notice.
Well, that scenario just got a little bit easier with the React Mobile app!

React Mobile is a free mobile safety app that allows users to upload contacts from their phone for a one touch mass text message alert in the event of an emergency.  You can also choose the “follow me” feature during times where you might feel more comfortable with loved ones knowing your whereabouts (i.e. an evening walk, a job interview, a first date, etc.)

This app has given me confidence in knowing that in a moments notice, every contact that I have listed on the app will be alerted that I am in danger and where I am at the moment.  Simply have the app open when you’re worried about your safety and press the REACT shield at the moment an emergency occurs.  It will give you the option of calling 911 and a text message will then be sent that lets your contacts know you need help with a link to your location.  When the link is clicked, a map will appear with your location and your emergency contacts will be able to follow you if you’re on the move.

Once you are out of danger you simply tap on the shield again, enter a 4 digit code, and cancel the SOS alert.  Another text message will be sent to your emergency contacts letting know that you are safe and no longer in need of assistance.

Overall, I think this app is one of the best emergency tools I’ve seen!  Being able to alert people that you’re in danger takes the guess work out of the whole situation.  The app is discreet, easily accessible, and quiet as to not make an attacker aware of what you’re up to.  The only issue I ran into was being prompted to “tap and hold” the shield to cancel the SOS alert.  I found that it took a double tap to cancel, but that’s a minor issue that can be addressed with updates.
It is my opinion that every smart phone owner needs to download this app.  I know we never want to imagine that the worst case scenario could happen to us, but React Mobile could mean the difference between life and death for you or a loved one.

You can download the app here or in the iTunes App Store!
