My mom has made a tradition of buying my sister and I a new Christmas ornament every year since we got married. It’s so special to me as she’s given us our “first Christmas” ornament as a married couple and Moriah’s “baby’s first Christmas” ornament the year she was born. I’m excited to see what she chooses for Kharis this year and to add it to our collection!
For this reason, I’m excited to introduce you to Susan of Miss Joy’s Christmas Ornaments! Susan makes beautiful handmade Christmas ornaments that would be a perfect addition to your tree this year! Miss Joy’s Christmas Ornaments has been in our footer ad all month long and today Susan’s going to share her heart, her shop, and a little giveaway with you!
Hi, my name is Susan, and I would like to take a little bit of time to tell you about myself and how Miss Joy’s Ornaments came to be.
Kelsey is my oldest granddaughter and a cancer survivor. She turned 8 in February. (Praise be to God). Her story is such a miracle story. She was diagnosed with what was supposed to be a terminal cancer at age 6 months, but we found answers and protection that could only come from the hand of God. She is a healthy, thriving girl who is quickly becoming a lovely and godly young lady. My heart is so full when I think of the bitter-sweet road the Lord led us down. It taught me to walk by faith. Psalm 23:4 became so real to me “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” There were nights when I literally slept with the Bible open over my heart.
The name of this business was originally Kelsey’s Korner. My daughter, Sarah, and I began it as a type of therapeutic creative outlet for dealing with the day to day trials of cancer treatment. Since then, it has become a true love and passion of mine. I can’t express how much joy I get from creating these ornaments and hearing how much they are appreciated by those who receive them.
As my daughter’s family has grown and Kelsey has recovered and been able to become involved in more activities, she has stepped aside and allowed me full creative control of the business. Last year I decided to change the name to Miss Joy’s Ornaments since I now have 3 other grandchildren and they are all the joys of my life.
My other grandchildren are 6, 4 and 2 years old. My husband and I have been married 30 years. Our two daughters are both grown. They are both married to wonderful men.
When I am not spending time with my family or making ornaments, I am a Massage and Clinical Trigger Point Therapist. I love my job, as it allows me the privilege of helping people on a daily basis.
Most recently my daughter, Sarah, who is Kelsey’s mother, was also diagnosed with a rare cancer. Thankfully it had not spread and after 25 rounds of radiation, the tumor was successfully removed. We are so thankful that the Lord is always faithful.
As far as my salvation story…well I have always loved the Lord and I can’t remember when I initially accepted Him, but I do know the welcome mat to my heart has been open to Him since I was a little girl. In recent years I have been involved in in-depth Bible study and as my knowledge of Him grows, my love for Him and my awe of Him grows. Through His word I have truly fallen deeply in love with my Savior and now see Him not just in the gospels, but all through the living, breathing word of God.
A wise person once told me “When we pray we are speaking to God and when we study His word He is speaking to us”.
God has truly blessed me in so many ways!
Blessings to all,
Susan
