I was going through a difficult period in my life where things around me seemed as if they were falling apart. I knew I was not where God wanted me to be. I always had a relationship with God, but not at a level like I have with him today.
These difficult times lead me to pursue God like never before and sent me in the direction he set out for my life.
I studied Graphic Design in college but was not in a place where I was making use of it. I felt unsatisfied and uneasy with my situation and knew God was calling me to use my gifts for him. The only thing was, I didn’t know how or in what way.
In June of 2012 I bumped into an old college friend at a friends wedding and she asked me if I was still doing art (I studied art and design and had a passion for painting back then). I said kind of but hadn’t painted in a number of years. She suggested that I should join Etsy as she was a fashion designer and sold her products there.
In August of 2012, after a couple months of persistent words of encouragement from my friend, I finally opened my shop on Etsy with a few abstract paintings and Petra’s Wonders was born.
I wanted to find a modern and creative way to encourage people in their walk with God; people that were going through issues in their life. So, I began to look at other ways of adding scripture to my collection. In December of 2012, after coming back from church, I was re-examining my shop and I asked God what he wanted me to do with it. The sermon that my pastor preached on that day popped into my mind, “Be active and use your talents”. I designed a few scripture prints that evening, posted them on a social networking site, and received a number of positive responses and orders.
Since then I’ve had several exhibitions and have received a lot of positive feedback from customers about the products and service. I am now looking to expand my collection so that the word of God will not just be limited to a space in the home or office.
I can now see the hand of God working through my life as “He knows the plans he has for me and its for good and not for evil”. Even though I went through brokenness and discouragement, I believe he was and is still doing the “shaking”!! Getting me out of my comfort zone and pushing me towards his best for my life. This has lead me to have a deeper relationship with him, trusting him, leaning on him for direction and guidance on this path . I have just started this journey and I am excited to see what God is going to do with Petra’s Wonders.
My mission is to bring the reminders of the Word of God and inspirational quotes and artwork into homes and offices in a modern and creative way. I hope to encourage and touch peoples lives through my work. Currently, I offer framed bespoke and personalized service where prints can be altered to suit your home decor. A percentage of each sale goes back into God’s Kingdom and I offer a percentage of the profit of sales to any church or bookstore that stocks Petra’s Wonders products.
