Instilling a Love of Reading

August 8, 2013 by Christie 5 Comments

This post is a sponsored post through Sverve.  All opinions are my own!
Reading with our girls has been really important for Q and I.  I have to admit that I’m not a big reader, but I want my kids to be and I want them to love it.  Q, being in seminary (and talking about his PhD), has to read a lot and he loves it.  This is coming from a guy who had only read through one book before college…no lie.

We started reading with Moriah when she was really young; mainly at bedtime but throughout the day, too.  Over the last few months Moriah has really started loving her books and reading time.  And, to my excitement, her favorite book is her Jesus Storybook Bible.

After asking for Kharis in the morning and before she goes potty, she has to grab her bible and she would take it everywhere if I let her.  My only complaint is she’s flipped through it so many times that it’s about to fall apart!  So, you can imagine my excitement when I was chosen to review a new reading service for kids; one available on the iPad which means no more torn pages!
Bookboard offers a digital library subscription with over 400 books for kids up to age 12 to discover, unlock, and collect.  The service grows with kids’ reading level and interests, and reinforces the experience of story time that instills a love of reading in kids.

Bookboard is now my favorite reading service for Moriah.  Once you sign up for your free trial on your iPad, you’ll receive an email with steps on how to start reading.  Once you’ve created your parent and child accounts you’ll be given age appropriate books to read through with your kids.  As your child completes the books given to them they receive reward books and unlock new adventures.

Bookboard also sends you an email when your child has completed a book or unlocked a new adventure making it easy to keep up with how much they’re reading and how far they’ve come!

I still love the nostalgia of sitting down with an actual book and reading with my girls, but having something digital with so many options at our fingertips is such a great tool.  Think of it as a sort of Kindle for kids!  Add on the excitement of unlocking new books and being rewarded for reading; it’s a win-win!

Does this sound like something your family might be interested in?  If so, head on over to Bookboard and start your free trial now!  The best part is, monthly subscriptions start at just $4.99!

Let’s encourage our kids to learn through reading.  They won’t regret it!

We just completed our library’s summer reading program. Reading an hour a day to a 20 month old was a little daunting but in the end totally worth it. It was amazing how quickly her vocabulary developed and how much she wants me to read to her now. She genuinely loves books!

My girls LOVE to read – we try to spend at least 30 minutes a night reading, if not more. So important!

This would have been great when my kids are younger.. We had a lot of books on the shelves and at times it would get overwhelming. This would be perfect for taking books on the go.
