Did you have a chance to stop by Lauren’s blog and get last week’s Kids for Kindness challenge?
If not, I hope you’ll hop on over there this week and join us for the new challenge.
If so, you’ll know that our first challenge was to go through all of our toys and set aside any unused or unwanted toys to donate to a shelter or family in need.
Our goal is to do these random acts of kindness with our kids! Moriah is only (almost) two and she could probably care less if I gave any or all of her toys away, as she never really plays with most of them.
Let’s see…she probably doesn’t play with a lot of them because they’re all piled into a basket! And look we have two of the same toy… one to keep, one to give away? Or, two to give away!?
Oh, and we have another corner of the living room with our grocery cart, books, bike, and scooter (all new from Christmas!). Oh, speaking of that cute scooter, come back on Monday when I’ll be giving away two!
Fortunately, when we moved we left a lot of Moriah’s toys in the garage to give away, so we don’t have too many toys in the house, but we still have enough to purge a few! We didn’t have time to actually do this challenge this week, but it’s on my never ending to-do list!
I really do think less is more. I’m overwhelmed with the amount of stuff we have and I am so happy to be able to give some of it away to people that could probably use it better than I do.
The question I’d like to ask myself, and you, is — are we giving away because it makes our life easier or are we giving away to have less? Not just to have less, but to be able to see God more clearly in our lives because we don’t have so.much.stuff keeping us from Him?
Anyway, did you join us this week? If so, how did your kids do with giving away some of their things?
Oh, and don’t forget to get this weeks challenge here!

“are we giving away because it makes our life easier or are we giving away to have less?”
love this statement! I’ve thought of this too when giving things away. You definitely have to do a heart check.

Good question. My son is older so we aren’t participating in this, but we do periodic room sweeps (all of us) and give. For us it is simply about giving away in order to bless. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend. I’m dropping by from the Our Every Day Harvest Harvest of Friends blog hop. Hope you can stop by too. 🙂 http://heresmytakeonit.blogspot.com/

I think it’s a good question, but ultimately doesn’t matter. Having less leaves more room for Him.

You’re right. Having less, period, leaves more room for Him! I look at people in 3rd world countries and I see their faith (much stronger than mine!) and can’t help but wonder if having less allows them to see Him more clearly.

Great job collecting items to give away! A good question at why we give away, but I agree, ultimately it doesn’t matter, what’s important is that in the end a person who needs the help, gets it.

Hi Jessica!
I believe the reason why we give does matter. If we give for US, the others may have received, but God looks at our hearts…not our deeds. If we give because we know there is a need and maybe even give when we don’t have much to give, I believe the Lord looks upon that more favorably than us giving to simply get rid of things!
