Tips for Our Youth!

December 15, 2012 by Christie 2 Comments

Being in youth ministry has been such a blessing for our family.  Spending the last four and half years pouring our lives into teenagers has been a blast!  To say that I love them, is an understatement!  Each year when our seniors graduate and head off to college, the military, or the work force, my heart aches! To see them walk away from the youth group is bittersweet.

Our goal, since our first ministry position, has been to walk teenagers from seventh grade to their graduation day.  In those six years we hope to bathe them in the Word of God, pray for them, and help their parents direct them towards Godly and wise choices.

One of the major life milestones that we help prepare them for is choosing the right college.  We encourage them to seek the Lord’s guidance and to make financially sound decisions.

One of our biggest tips for them is to start off at a 2-year technical school or community college.  Not only is this smart, but it saves tons of money!  To think that you can get the same two years of college courses for more than half of what it would cost at a major university is astounding!

I remember when I was a senior in high school; going to community college was the worst thought, ever!  Being an adult now, community college is a no-brainer!

I went to a major university – for a semester – and came back home and attended our local community college!  Not only was I able to work full time while in school, but I was also able to pay for my associate’s degree out of pocket!

One of my biggest expenses each semester were my textbooks!  I remember the anguish on people’s faces as they walked to the counter to pay for their books.  The thought of hundreds of dollars going right out the window was a painful process!

CampusBookRentals.com offers students an alternative to buying textbooks; rent them instead!

Sounds pretty good to me!  Let’s take a look at a specific title on Amazon – where I used to buy my textbooks from – and compare it to the rental price on CampusBookRentals.com!

This book on Business Law can be rented from Amazon for $101.25.  On CampusBookRentals.com, you can rent the same book for $72.91!

Seems like a no-brainer to me!  Youth, here’s your tip of the week – why not save each semester by renting your textbooks instead of buying them?  ðŸ™‚
Do you have a family member currently attending college?  Have them check out CampusBookRentals.com and see if they can save a little extra by renting their textbooks, instead of buying!

as someone that used to work in college recruiting i know about this discussion all too well! i remember feeling the same way about community college, and i ended up going for two quarters and so glad i did! if i didn’t i might not have ended up graduating in 4 years.
i love the concept of renting books! i was so sad that it wasn’t really huge until i was a senior. but the few books i got to rent were definitely worth it.
even though i don’t work in recruiting anymore, i still really enjoy helping students figure out what’s next. glad to know you’re passionate about that, too 🙂
