Our topic last night with the youth was “Discerning the Lord’s Will“. We are doing a weekly Wednesday night study on “A Daily Pursuit of Jesus”. Each week we discuss a topic that teens face at
- school
- home
- church, or
- in the world.
I truly enjoy being an integral part of ministry at our church. I am Q’s right hand (wo)man, but more than that, I enjoy learning under his leadership. Sometimes, I realize (in the moment) that I’m listening intently, like one of the youth (some of the older ladies in the church often mistake me for a youth). I realize that I need to be fed too. I just hope that Q is being fed as well; he needs it more than anyone.
As I sat and listened, Q told a story about trying to discern God’s will before he took his first ministry position in college. He called the pastor he grew up with and the pastor said, “God’s will is not hard to understand.”
> In other words, the Lord’s will is for us to know. So what keeps us from knowing it?
Wow! If you think about it for a moment, dwell on that statement, you’ll realize that Pastor is right. I completely agree with him! (Do you?) I believe that we make excuses, prolonging, or clouding over, God’s will.
- “Well, I need to pray a little more about it.”
- “Well, I’ll make the decision tomorrow.”
- “Well, this and that and this and that…blah blah blah blah blah.”
It’s not that hard! God will direct you if you would just surrender! The priests had to walk into the Jordan before the Lord parted the waters! I’m not saying you don’t need to pray about it or feel secure in your decision. But, prolonging God’s will because of our insecurities and fears doesn’t bring honor and glory to Him.
So, I say all of this to say, I know that God is leading us towards adoption. I know that He will provide and I don’t need to continue to prolong the process. Now, this will be a continual prayer process, but the stagnant “wishy, washy excuses” is over. I’m ready to surrender and see where God leads.

It’s amazing how creative with excuses we get… I think of the word lathered in the New Testament…”Immediately”. When God directs our steps we have to obey with urgency, and not procrastinate. Congratulation on feeling God leading you to adopt.

Grace, yes! That does seem to be a frequent word in the NT. What a challenge! The NT church served and obeyed God -immediately- that’s a powerful challenge for us today! Thanks for pointing that out!
