Remembering the Gifts {DaySpring}

October 17, 2012 by Christie 12 Comments

I’ve been yearning for the Lord, lately.  To write that just seems so wrong to me.  This ministry life; it leaves you feeling you have to be on and perfect all the time.  How does the pastor’s wife feel out of tune with the Lord?
It’s all me.  None of Him.
I lay in bed at night and I pray, “Lord give me a deeper desire for you, a deeper desire for your word.  I want to be in a more intimate relationship with you today.”
Sometimes it’s so easy to forget all that He’s done for us and the gifts that He’s so graciously given us.  We allow the days to rush by and the moments are gone.  And how many times have we let moments with Him pass us by?
Ann Voskamp - One Thousand Gifts - Photo Gift Book
How many times have we forgotten the gifts that He so graciously gives us, daily?
I know this God and I know him intimately, He’s the sweetest gift I’ve ever received.  Salvation.  And because I know Him, I know when I need to be more in tune with Him.
Six years ago this month I accepted the Lord into my life.
Six years ago I said, “Yes, Lord change me.  I don’t want to be who I am anymore.  Take me, break me, change me…for your glory!”
And He did!
For 2,190 days the Lord has changed my life!  Each day is one more gift of an intimate relationship with Him!
And this is why I desire intimacy with Him; because I know what life is like without Him.
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Psalm 34:8
Ann Voskamp- God in the Moment - Perpetual Calendar

When I received Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts Photo Gift Book and God in the Moment Perpetual Calendar I immediately opened the calendar to the days inspirational quote.

Why is remembering and giving thanks the core of the Christ-faith?  Because remembering with thanks is what causes us to trust – to truly believe.

And today I did just that; I remembered and I gave thanks for a God whose perfect sacrifice in Jesus Christ provided me an intimate relationship with the creator of the universe.
I’m so undeserving!
Today, I pray that you know this Jesus; personally and intimately!
If you don’t, I invite you to contact me!  I’d love to tell you about Him!

Dayspring provided me with a copy of One Thousand Gift’s Photo Gift Book and the God in the Moment Perpetual Calendar for this review.  All opinions are my own.  Affiliate links included.

Christie, I’m a PW too and just last night felt the “crush” of not measuring up. But I woke up today and received His new mercies! I so appreciate your writing! Blessings, Sarah

Isn’t it so true. I was laying in bed unable to sleep last night just thinking about all of the gifts I take for granted.

We all take things for granted but it’s nice to realize that and say a thankful prayer.

Thanks for stopping by my blog – following you now 🙂

No one should feel they have to be “on and perfect” all the time. You have been an inspiration to me as well as MANY other people. I have grown more in my spiritual life by your example and what an amazing feeling for a mother to have.

Love you so much. Mom xoxoxo

🙂 great job making a post out of a review!
Just started following… blog wandering today. 🙂
I love the One Thousand Gifts book… and I agree. Ministry takes it out of you. I was just complaining {complaining!?} about how I am always so aware of the Holy Spirit… sometimes I wish He’d just leave me alone. {I didn’t mean it, not really} 🙂

Ohhh how I relate to this, and oh how easy we forget the blessings, the gifts, the redemption, the sacrifice. “Feelings” usually get in the way for me, when I start be consumed by how I feel or my own opinion, I am not consumed by God. Great post, dear! Thanks for linking up with Into the Word.

It’s easy to remember THE gift God has given me – the blood of His Son, shed on the cross to save me from sin. But it can be a real challenge to remember all the little gifts He also gives me on a daily basis.

It is really easy to forget what God has given to us. It’s really easy to take credit ourselves. God is teaching me this everyday! Thank you for sharing and I may have to get myself one of those calendars.

Did you know my husband is a minister? I totally get the expectations thing. It’s tough, isn’t it. But thankfully God is full of grace, and sometimes He’s asking us to demonstrate grace to those who’s expectations of us are too high. Yikes – that’s a tough one!

    THanks for linking up!
