Stop Abortion Now! {A Call to Action}

September 11, 2012 by Christie 36 Comments

I’ve been thinking about writing this post for the last couple of weeks.  This issue has been on my heart for many years and being a mother now, through adoption, it makes it even more urgent and dear to my heart.  I want to convey my words correctly and with grace, but with conviction.  I want to reach and impact many, and I want the Lord to change minds and hearts, in ways only He can.

First, if you found this space because you are pregnant and thinking about abortion, please know that there is no condemnation here and there is a better option.  Please know that the Lord knows you, he formed you perfectly in your mother’s womb just as he is forming this precious child in your womb, and he cares about you.  If you feel led, please contact me!

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
Psalm 139:14

This picture is what spurred this post and it has haunted me since I first saw it a few weeks ago…

Why has this picture haunted me, you ask?  Because this woman was twenty weeks pregnant with twin girls. This picture was taken as she walked into an abortion clinic to abort her beautiful babies.

“She already had daughters and didn’t want any more.“

Oh, my heart literally aches as I write these words.  The tears just can’t be held back.  I can’t help but think of my little girl and what could have been her fate had her birthmother chosen not to carry her to term.
Her face, her joy, her laughter, her perfectly soft skin.
Oh, Lord.  Those babies.  This world will never see their faces, their joy, their laughter, their perfectly soft skin.
Why?
I don’t know her circumstance, I don’t know her pain, I don’t know her reasoning.  Only that “she already had daughters and didn’t want any more.”
There are always options, there is always a way out.  Taking the life of an unborn child is never the way out.  I can’t help but think it’s about convenience.  Murder (such a strong word, isn’t it?) is never the answer.  Not for me, not for you, not for anyone.  Not against the unborn, not against the elderly, nor anyone in between.  Every human being (i.e. from the moment of conception) deserves the right to live.
“I’ve noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born.”
Ronald Reagan
Church, it’s time to step up….in many ways.  It’s time to stand out, to stop being silent.  It’s time to stick our necks out for the cause of the unborn.
Why are millions of babies being murdered every.single.year?  Why is it second nature…to some?  Why is it ok for a woman to murder her unborn child, but if someone else murders her and her unborn child, they receive two charges of murder?
If we say we’re against abortion, we have to be willing to be a part of the change.  Are you willing to adopt those children that are being saved?  Are you willing to write your elected officials?  Are you willing to vote pro-life?
Are you willing to stand up for what you say you believe?

Or, are you going to do nothing?  We can’t expect the world to do something about it.  We can’t expect the lost to care about issues of God, because only God can change this issue and the hearts and minds that align with it.
So, what will you do?
“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”
Albert Einstein
I choose to stand up and stand out.  If only I could have saved those sweet baby girls…
Lord, please give us wisdom and opportunity to save some.  Please give us words filled with grace and conviction to change the hearts of those that can outlaw this tragedy.  Most importantly, change the hearts of pregnant mothers everywhere.  Help them to see what a gift children are and to know that life is beautiful from conception!

I too do not understand this, I don’t understand how it can happen and it be the “best choice”. It is so very sad, as children are so precious in God’s sight.
Thanks for stoppin by Simply Helping Him. I see you are NC, my parents live in a lil town in NC. 😉 Blessings!

    It is sad indeed Christie!
A couple of weeks ago, I led the women at the Church we pastor here in Nigeria to visit a brothel. We met a pregnant lady who we begged not to hurt her child, we were willing to help. I believe we can all do something besides praying just like you have said.
Abortion is very heartbreaking for me, innocent lives, rudely taken…

Yes, Ugochi! You said it best, we can ALL do SOMETHING! The worst thing we can do is stick our head in the sand and do nothing! Thanks for stopping by!

Christie, this is beautifully and so gracefully written. Thank you for speaking out and challenging the church to do something in love, not in condemnation. I could not have voiced this better myself.

Very convicting Christie. Too often we have no problem stating what we’re against, but we do nothing about it. Thank you for writing this.

It is, Camille! And, in our nation’s capital, it’s legal to abort up until the MOMENT of BIRTH! So very, very sad.

It is heartbreaking. Words can’t describe how it’s affected me these few weeks. And, to know that there are sooo many more women making the same choices, today.

I’m with Mrs P! This photo took me off guard also! The desperation women must feel to go through with such an act much be overwhelming. And how any woman must feel after such an act must be even worse. Heartbreaking both for mother and child.

The quote’s you wrote also hit home!!!!!

P.S. You have a most beautiful baby girl – she is adorable.

      Wendy,

Thank you! I think she’s the greatest gift, ever!

And, yes, I can’t imagine the state of mind and circumstance one must be in to choose this decision and to have to live with it afterwards. Praying for the Lord to restore hearts!

Thank you for writing such a beautiful yet powerful post. My heart aches for those twin girls and all other babies that have been lost through abortion. It is so sad. I pray God will turn back the hearts of parents to their children. Well written post. Really really like it.

Last night this was brought to mind again as I listened to Governor Mike Huckabee speak at the Life Choices banquet in Joplin, Missouri last night.

It truly is heartbreaking. We must pray that truth will prevail and the mothers will know that they are not killing a fetus, they are killing their child.

    Blessings,

Laura, I agree. Many of these women haven’t been given the truth. If they only knew the precious child that is within them…

What a beautiful post! The image is indeed haunting and hurt my heart and soul. I pray everyday for our society. It is so unfathomable to ponder the millions of children who have been brutally murdered in their mother’s womb, the place that God designed to be the most loving and nurturing haven for them. I pray for God’s mercy on us and our nation. Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for your kind comments! Hope you have a great weekend. Many blessings, Lisa

This has always saddened me, and made me so upset. I’m befuddled right now, but abortion is/has been a huge issue for me, one I don’t back down from in conversations. I have never been able to see how other could not, or would not, see that it is murder. It breaks my heart…
