For us, coming up with the “perfect” name never did seem of highest importance. Before adoption seemed “real” we would throw around a name or two, mainly boy names, and Q would always go back to his favorite girl name, Talitha. I always disagreed as I was afraid she would always be called Tabitha! When the birthparents asked us what we wanted his/her name to be (before any of us knew the sex) we automatically knew of a boy name (Josiah) but hadn’t yet agreed on a girl’s name. When we found out at 2am on January 31 that our blessing was a girl, Q automatically hopped out of bed and started searching for biblical girl names. On the way down to Jacksonville, one by one, I threw all of the names out that he’d come up with:
Grace
Faith
Hope
Eden
Talitha
No, no, no!
So, as we drove down I-95 the birthmother continued to ask what name we’d chosen. About 2 hours away I decided to search for biblical girl names. All of the ones that Q had come up with popped up, but there I found…Moriah. Let me start with the biblical account of the sacrifice of Isaac at Mount Moriah in Genesis 22: 1-19
So you ask, “What’s In a Name?”
When we received “the phone call” on January 30 at 9:30pm, we had no idea how we would pay for Moriah’s adoption, how we would be equipped to parent her, let alone raise her to love Christ with all of her heart, soul, mind and strength. But, that night (with trembling hands and fear beyond anything you could ever know) we said, “Yes, Lord! We trust You, we believe that you will provide and we have faith in you!”
Moriah Faith
I’ll have to save the provision story for another blog post, but let’s just say the Lord has and continues to provide. We trust with every ounce of faith that He will provide the complete ransom for her adoption before her finalization hearing on May 12. Will you continue to pray with us?
I said from the day we left NC to head to FL, “I want none of this to be because of anything I ever did. I want the Lord to receive the glory from Moriah’s story…she is His!”
Lord, thank you for giving me the precious gift of waking up to this smile every morning. Thank you for the provision and for your promises that are new every single day! Continue to increase my faith through my little girl and help me to glorify you in all that I do.
