Before I get into the purpose behind this particular blog post, I wanted to thank you all for your encouragement. I think I’ve said this before, but I never imagined the friendships, love, and support that would come out of starting this blog. You all are an awesome portrayal of the body of Christ in action, praying us through the ups and downs of this journey! Thank you!
Second, I’m still compiling a list of all of the blogs that are fundraising for their adoptions. I will be putting together another post on that, hopefully tomorrow, so that we can all start shopping!!
But back to my post!
Where do I begin!? I can’t even remember how long ago I started following Katy and Kahler, but I soon realized that Katy was one of those bloggy friends that you just fell in love with and felt like you’d known forever.
Let me give you a little background on this wonderful couple! They moved from Texas to Zambia back in July, not even a year after they were married, in order for Kahler to take an internship position doing HIV research. Since moving, Kahler’s been hard at work while Katy has gotten involved with the women’s ministry at the local church.
Now to the real reason for this post; Katy and Kahler need a car!
Here’s why (in Katy’s words!):
Lusaka is a very large city and very spread out. Other than our church and the small (very limited) supermarket down the street, there is nothing within walking distance from our home. We are required to take taxi’s everywhere we go, which is really expensive. We’ve gotten to the point of only leaving the flats once (sometimes twice) a week and that is on the weekends to go grocery shopping. The closest grocery store we can go to is $6 one way. We’ve practically stopped going to the International Bible Study that we loved so much because it was costing us $7 one way.
Possibly the biggest reason of all: as you can imagine, this has been a huge hindrance on Katy getting involved in ministry. There are many places/projects in town that I would love to visit/volunteer/work with, but cannot afford to take a taxi that far on a regular basis. A vehicle would allow me the freedom to go places during the week and find more things to do! Without one, I am pretty much limited to the things here in our neighborhood (which aren’t many).
All of that being said, we have found a vehicle that the Baptist Mission is selling and we are getting a really good deal on it. However, even though we are getting a good deal on it, we are still living off of one (very minimal) salary and the majority of this purchase will come from our savings and that’s honestly a little terrifying.
So, that being said, Katy and I have teamed up to create a ChipIn donation button. Friends, I ask that you pray about how you might be able to donate towards the purchase of this much needed vehicle. And in the meantime, please pray for Kahler and Katy’s ministry to the people of Zambia.
Also, if you’d like for your donation to be tax-deductible, you can mail a check to:
One27 Ministries
1812 Southwood Dr.
College Station, TX 77840
(specify “Stone Vehicle” in the memo line)
Thanks so much for prayerfully considering this ministry opportunity. I will also have the ChipIn meter on the sidebar (just make sure you donate to the right ChipIn meter!)
If you would like to add this ChipIn meter to your page, please feel free to email me at Kitzers3@msn.com and I will give you the html code.

You are so sweet for doing this, Christie! Thanks for helping us spread the word about our needs here in Africa.
ps- I found out how to take off the “goal to raise” so that it’s now like your’s. I like it that way better! 😉
