Prayer Request

June 28, 2010 by Christie 5 Comments

I have a prayer request for a friend of mine….a request with many parts!!

First, I’m not sure that these friends are saved, so please pray for Q and I as we attempt to minister to them and show Christ’s love through our actions.

Second, they are foster parents (the same family that I was looking for an adoption card for) to 2 little boys (brothers, 19 months and 2.5 years). They have had the 19 month old since he was 5 months old and the 2.5 year old for 6 months now. Their original plan was to adopt the younger one (he has cerebral palsy, speech delays, and behaviors) and then their agency called and asked if they would foster his brother as well (they also have 7 siblings that are either in foster care or have been adopted). They, of course, agreed but have decided (due to the younger one’s disabilities) that they will not be able to adopt both of them. They think it would be best to allow the older one to move on to an adoptive placement.

Their agency called today and has said if they don’t keep the oldest one, they will remove both from their home. Needless to say, she is heartbroken and angry.

She is all for keeping sibling groups together but believes (as I do in this case) that taking both of them out of her home and placing them both back into foster care will prolong their being adopted. If she was to keep the younger one (which was her plan from the beginning), she would be able to adopt him by November. I rest assured that the older one would be adopted fairly quick also.

Please pray for these little boys and for this family. Sometimes the state and social workers think that every case deserves the same treatment. In reality, I believe, you must treat every case separately. I fear that placing these little boys back into foster care, as a sibling group, is a horrible decision. One, sibling groups are harder to place and two, the younger one’s disabilities will also hinder their adoption.

I trust that God is sovereign in all situations and I know that He knows what’s best for these little boys. Please pray with me that these social workers would have their best interest in mind…

Oh, praying for this situation. It’s certainly a broken system and in the spokes are thousands of children and families. Ugh.
Loved, loved, loved Radical. Am reading it for the second time.
