I went to Tar*get yesterday to buy a gift and a card for a friend that completed her adoption (through the foster care system) on Friday. I proceeded to the card section, baby in particular, and looked (and looked, and looked) for an adoption related card. I ended up having to ask the lady stocking the cards if they had such a thing. She said, “Yes, I know we have one, but I don’t know if they carry it at this store. Maybe people didn’t buy it, so they stopped selling it.”
***Soapbox, randomness***
Shouldn’t we, as Christians, be adopting in droves, so that the card section at the store is full of adoption cards, instead of not selling them?
Anyway, long story short, I found the card…one adoption related card in the whole baby section…maybe Hall*mark has a better selection, but I don’t frequent there!!
So, that got me thinking…
I know a lady at the church that has a card-making hobby. Handmade cards for special occasions. Maybe I could team up with her to make adoption related cards as a fundraiser for our adoption!!?
I haven’t thought about all of the logistics yet. I haven’t even thought about how I would do it or spoken to her about it…to add onto that, I’m not crafty at all.
So, what do you think? Good idea, seriously? Or do you think there wouldn’t be much interest?
I was thinking mainly here in the blog-world, where most of the people I know are linked to the adoption-world, maybe there would be some interest…
Give me your feedback, friends!!

GREAT idea!!! You know, you could EASILY sell them on etsy.com! I would buy them Christie. Let me know if you want help, I would be glad to help out. 🙂
I think it’s a great idea! Cards for congratulations on your adoption, thinking of you during your adoption process, and just regular thank you, etc. cards. I LOVE homemade cards! Let me know if you do it!!!
It is tough to find adoption related anything in mass market production. I’ve had to look at Etsy for tee shirts, Amazon for books, etc.
And I am right there with you about wishing Christians were adopting so frequently that adoption would become commonplace. I was so disheartened to hear a youth pastor’s wife from my old church say that they would keep having babies until they had a boy. When someone asked why they wouldn’t just adopt a son, she looked at them and said “Well it wouldn’t really be our child then would it?”
First, how cool is God! Love that your life is a new creation and all the ways you have surrendered fully to Him!
Second, LOVE the idea!
Hugs and much love,
Jill
I think it is a great idea, too! Go for it!
Hi Christie, this idea sounds great!! I’m sure you can learn to be crafty 😀 There’s plenty of inspiration found in blogland regarding card making.

Hi, Christie!
Thanks so much for the comment on my blog. It’s great to “meet” you!
Two of my siblings are adopted, and five of my nieces and nephews are as well…so adoption is very near and dear to my heart. I pray that God grants you success in your adoption endeavors!
Sounds like a great idea! 🙂 I, too, pray that God will direct you and bless you on your journey!
