5 Ways to Keep Fear From Invading Your Life

In light of our ever changing world there are many scare tactics being used that leave parents fearful of their parenting decisions. Some I have seen lately have to do with vaccinations (whether or not to get them) and childhood obesity. Recently I was informed by my daughters teacher that I don’t send enough “healthy choices” in my daughters school lunch; the same child that a nutritionist tells me what to put in her lunch! And a few weeks ago I watched fellow Christians bash one another on Facebook over whether or not you should get your child vaccinated.

Where does this leave us as Christian parents?

Jesus says it the best:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what to wear. Life is more than food, and body and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than the birds! Who are you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?  Luke 12: 22-26 NIV

Here’s another great verse!

So do not fear, for I am with you; do no be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  Isaiah 41:10 NIV

Wow! We’re told not to worry because God is with us, yet we see fear tactics happening every day but we can’t put an end to them. Here’s 5 ways to keep fear from invading your life.
Pray Over It
If you feel fear seeping into your soul, stop what you’re doing that moment and pray. It doesn’t have to be a huge prayer, just a simple one: “Lord, I am afraid and anxious. I pray for strength to overcome these feelings.”

Use the Bible!
If fear is overcoming you, reach for one of your armours of God, the Bible! It’s full of great verses of hope. When I am afraid I often find myself in the books of Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes. These are my personal comfort books.

Educate Yourself
Educating yourself on the matter can help you conquer it or make a decision.  For example, I have spent many hours researching brain injuries, vaccinations, and other things that affect my child’s life and then made decisions on that information. Look for information that is not biased. If a writer is pro one way or another it will reflect their own writing and their own resources. One view is not fact.

Fellowship With Believers
Fellowship with friends. Being around people who will lift you up, encourage you, and strengthen you in the Word can beat back fear.

Worship!
Turn on your favourite worship music and sing and dance along! After fifteen minutes you will feel so much better. When I am full of anxiety, just singing in church on Sundays can take it away!

This world is full of fear tactics, but we have something the world does not have – our Father in Heaven. As you go about your day keep that in mind next time something causes you to fear!

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind.
